The Reason for the Hope

Stand firm; stand firm! Be about God’s business. Set your mind on things above, not on earthly things. In all things, with all people, in every situation, seek the Lord and bring the Lord and trust the Lord and obey the Lord and give thanks to the Lord. Let your vain imaginings be dispersed; let your fear and anxiousness be stopped; let your wicked ways be dropped; let your stubborn will be broken and redirected and fixed. And let the world’s ways not be your character. Let not conformity or appeasement or tolerance for evil or acceptance of perversion and deception enter your heart or your life. The Word is within you --- there is no room for the wiles of the world. Good does not compromise with evil; light does not compromise with darkness; sweet does not compromise with bitter. Jesus Christ is your life! And the truth is your guidance and guardian and treasure. And the hope and joy and strength that hold you and make you and sustain you are your knowledge and wisdom and message and song. And your soul sings! Your soul sings! And the goodness and kindness and gentleness and love and joy and patience and peace and self-control that have come to you are your vision and pronouncement and practice and personality. You overcome everything through Christ who is your power and purpose and glory. Do not be afraid; do not be weary; do not give up or give in and give out. Stand tall; stand firm; stand strong! Your flesh and your heart may fail, but God is the strength of your life and your portion forever!

Who is going to harm you if you are eager to do good? But even if you should suffer for what is right, you are blessed. Do not fear what they fear; do not be frightened. But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect, keeping a clear conscience, so that those who speak maliciously against your good behavior in Christ may be ashamed of their slander. It is better, if it is God’s will, to suffer for doing good than for doing evil.  --- 1 Peter 3:13-17
