The 40 Day TBC Life Devotion

Day 7

“Hold fast to what is good” (Romans 12:9, ESV).

Genuine love hates what is evil (detrimental) in the lives of those around us. The other side of the coin is that genuine love will “hold fast” (will cleave to, be glued to, be cemented to) what is good or beneficial.

In other words, you will never stop believing for the best! You won’t believe the gossip or the inuendo--but you will believe the accomplishment and the sacrifice. You won’t believe the cancer scare—but you will believe for the healing. You won’t agree to the detrimental—but rather you will trust in the beneficial!

We don’t speak problems--We shout promises! We don’t notice defects—We declare deliverance! Peter tells us, “Above all, keep fervent in your love for one another because love covers (veils) a multitude of sins” (1 Peter 4:8). True love will overlook flaws. 1 Corinthians 13 gives a similar message, “Love . . . does not take into account a wrong suffered” (v5).

We must learn to see the potential in people, the same way that God does. It’s not the test that gives God glory—it’s the testimony! Don’t stop reading the book of someone’s life until you have read the very last page. One difficult page in the middle of the book is not the whole story.

“There is no saint without a past, no sinner without a future.” –Augustine (354-430).

Practice speaking and exercising blessing into every person you encounter, both within and beyond TBC. “Hold fast to what is good.”
