The 40 Day TBC Life Devotion
Day 3
“Don’t think of yourself more highly than you ought to think (arrogantly), but think with sober judgment (to be in your right mind), each according to the measure of faith that God has assigned” (Romans 12:3, ESV).
There is a trap that we can fall into where we begin to imagine that we are more spiritual than we really are, that we are more valuable to TBC than we really are, and that we have a wiser perspective than we actually do.
At the same time, there are others who believe they are not valuable at all, not contributing much to the cause, and are not very far along in the faith.
This verse says that God has given to each of us a “measure of faith”. This faith (belief/trust) has to do with how God will use us in the church. It’s not a self-centered arrogance, but rather a God-centered belief that He can do, “immeasurably more than all we can ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us” (Ephesians 3:20, NIV).
Think humbly. Serve faithfully. Let God define your worth.
“Pride is spiritual cancer: it eats up the very possibility of love, or contentment, or even common sense.” –C.S. Lewis
Why do you think God has placed you at TBC?
