The 40 Day TBC Life Devotion

Day 11

“Be fervent in spirit” (Romans 12:11b, ESV).

The word translated “fervent” is the Greek word “zeo” which literally means boiling. This is the same word that is used to describe Apollos in Acts 18:25, “being fervent in spirit”. The idea is to possess a boiling, intense, and passionate zeal for serving and worshipping God—not merely going through the motions. It is excitement and thrill! It is energy and passion!

Think about the most exciting thing that you have ever done. I’m personally thinking about professional sporting events, high profile speaking engagements, and even my wedding day. Wow! The energy was through the roof!

When I was in college, I experienced the contrast between how it felt to worship at church and how it felt to worship at a Christian concert. One was pretty ordinary and the other was over the top exciting. I’m happy to say that there is no longer any difference in the two for me. I love coming together every Sunday to worship with my TBC family. My spirit is boiling with energy as we sing and as we worship.

What about you? Are you “fervent in spirit” when we come together? How can you turn up your passion to reach the boiling point?
